Motorized Scooters Information
- We are not the "scooter police" unless someone presents us with no other option. Just like we are not the "shavings" police.
- You are welcome to report any concerns to GFR at the entry office or via messenger.
Motorized Scooters Defined
- Typically, a device ridden by a single standing individual and powered by a small motor.
- This definition includes but is not limited to gasoline and electrically powered/battery operated scooters, skateboards, inline skates, Segways, one wheeled or two wheeled and similar devices.
- Motorized Scooters does NOT include devices designed for use by persons with physical disabilities.
- All Motorized Scooters (as defined above) are subject to the provisions of the Texas Transportation Code.
- According to Texas Transportation Code Section 551.351, a motor-assisted scooter is a self-propelled device with at least two wheels, a gas or electric motor capable of making the device travel up to 15 miles per hour, and a braking system capable of stopping the device. It also has a deck that allows a person to sit or stand while operating the vehicle and can be propelled by human power alone. An e-scooter is not the same as an electric bicycle, moped or motorcycle in the eyes of the law in Texas. Motor-assisted scooters have their own rules and regulations.
Age Limits for Riding
In Texas, a rider must be 16 years or older to ride an e-scooter (as defined above) as per the State of Texas.Helmet Requirements
Helmets are strongly encouraged by GFR while riding e-scooters, but they are not a legal requirement in all Texas Cities. This is similar to Texas’ bicycle helmet stance, which is that all riders, regardless of age, may operate bicycles without wearing helmets. The only exception is if a city or municipality has a law requiring bike helmets which is the operator’s responsibility to know the local laws. It is not GFR’s responsibility to inform operator of every local law.Motorized Scooters Operation
- •No person shall operate a motorized scooter on/in the following areas: Race Holding pens by any race alleyway. GFR(Go Fast Races) highly suggest not operating a motorized scooter among horses.
- On any ramp established for the use of persons with disabilities.
- Inside enclosed entry office
- On any landscaped facility areas.
- May not block Fire lanes/ramps/stairways or railings
- No charging of Motorized Scooters inside the facility. Please do so at your own trailer.
- If you are unfamiliar with scooter operations, take time to look at operation and safety information provided by the scooter manufacturer.
- GFR HIGHLY RECOMMENDS that you wear a helmet at all times when operating a scooter. Consider other protective gear as well such wrist guards, knee pads, and elbow pads.
- •Don’t operate a scooter while impaired.
- •Use caution in pathways that cross.
- GFR Recommends that motorized scooter operators look into personalized insurance for coverage in case of accidents/rider liability.
- Go Fast Races Reserves the right to have any person or operator of vehicle removed from the venue premises, if necessary by law enforcement, if person is deemed to be a risk or danger to others while operating a motorized scooter (as defined above)
- Any operator/user agrees to abide by these Rules to Ride. GFR Reserves the right to amend these rules at anytime. We simply ask for your common sense cooperation.
